Help choosing your Windkat
1) Choosing the right Windkat configuration is easy with the following hints and tips.
There are three possible configurations for attaching the Windkat to your flue.
The Baseplate configuration is the right choice if you have a traditional chimney stack (usually brick or concrete). Any existing pot should be removed and the Windkat fixed in place with 4 screws.

The second option is the Plug-in configuration, which allows the Windkat to be easily slotted into the top of a single or double walled metal flue pipe. This configuration can also be used to fit a Windkat on top of some chimney pots (instead of removing the pot and fitting a baseplate model). The pot must allow a snug fit for the plugin and be sufficiently strong to support the windkat.

The third option is the Baseplate with flexible liner attachment which enables suspension of a flexible flue liner from the Windkat.

2) Selecting the right size of Windkat requires measuring the diameter (in millimetres) of your flue at the top where the Windkat will be fitted. You may need to get a chimney sweep or builder to do this if it is not easily accessible. If you have a metal flue or liner, the size may be noted on any documentation you received when it was installed.
If you are measuring for a Baseplate, the correct Windkat size to choose is equal to or larger than your flue. E.g. if your flue is 189 mm diameter (or from corner to corner if it is not round) then you need the Windkat Baseplate 200.
If you are measuring for a Plug-in configuration, you need to be more accurate with your measurements and choose the Plug-in 2mm to 6mm smaller than the internal diameter of your flue.
3) Additional features for your Windkat can now be considered including:
Windkat Extension (0.5m of high quality double walled insulated rigid flue designed to raise the height of the Windkat). In certain cases the flue needs to be raised out of a critical zone before even the Windkat can become effective. Read more about when to include an extension on our Hints and Tips page.
Wire mesh (wire mesh covering the opening around the top of the Windkat). This is a legal requirement if you are fitting the Windkat to a flue serving a gas appliance.
Coloured Windkats are available in Terracotta, Black and Anthracite as well as the standard stainless steel.
